Japanese keirin and keirin as a sport event
On account of ‘Koichi Nakano’, the legend, Japanese keirin came into the global spotlight. Nakano, as a professional keirin cyclist, won the sprint finals for 10 consecutive times at the Track Cycling World Championships. As a matter of fact, his championships attracted the global attention to Japanese keirin and that was a major reason for ‘KEIRIN’ being added to an Olympic event.
In Japanese keirin, cyclists’ initial act of forming groups referred to as ‘lines’ is a distinctive feature, but it’s banned in ‘KEIRIN’ when it comes to sport events.
